Brief Lesson Overview

In this project, students will work in teams to review the FAB brochure and evaluate how they can get a head start on a business career. They will learn what classes their high school offers, what activities and volunteer opportunities are available to them to help prepare for a career in business or finance. Students will also become better acquainted with their classmates and teacher.

Appropriate Subject and Grade Levels

For middle school or 9th or 10th grade high school students in any subject.

Length of Project

One 55 minute class period

NOTE: The length of this project is an estimated minimum time needed for completion that may easily be expanded upon. The length of time will naturally increase as the project is expanded upon by the teacher as it is adapted to meet classroom and curriculum goals.

Student Materials Required

  • FAB brochure or handout – choose and use the color tri-fold brochure(inside and outside) or the single-sided, black and white, photocopy-ready handout – they both contain the same information.
  • Essay Rubric - to clarify the writing assignments
  • 3 x 5 cards, post-its, or small squares of paper, tape or push pins
Classroom Facilities Needed

Chalk board, white board or bulletin board where students can tape, pin cards or post-it

Sierra Community College , through the Finance and Business Insustry Sector Grant, worked with high school teachers in a two-year long project to create and test these classroom project lesson plans. The objective was to provide high quality, ready-to-use lessons that integrated vocational and academic standards, concepts and curriculum.
